Every brand has a beginning.
Ours didn't start with a business plan or a market opportunity, it started in an old brick shed a block from the ocean. Like many ‘bad’ ideas, Bohdi began with curiosity and a bit of improvisation. We built our first sauna using a camp stove, some admittedly questionable pine cladding, and a homemade cold plunge fashioned from an old chest freezer tucked away in a weathered garage. It wasn't glamorous, and by no means was it the finished product, but it introduced us to something that quickly became part of our lives.
Between ocean swims, surfs, training sessions, and weekends with friends, we'd find ourselves returning to that little shed. We'd sit in the heat, cool off outside, jump into the cold plunge, and spend hours talking absolute nonsense. It became a place to recover after a long day, celebrate small wins, prove our macho intensions and simply hang out with your pals. On the odd occasion a lovely lady with questionable morals would even venture into our aptly named “ghetto spa”.
That's when we realised something important. The sauna was never just about the heat.
It was about creating space.
Space to pause. Space to connect. Space to put phones away, breathe deeply, and enjoy the company of the people around you. In a world that's constantly asking us to move faster, the sauna gave us permission to do the opposite.
The more we experienced that feeling, the more we wanted to share it.
We started imagining what it would look like if that same thing could exist beyond the backyard. What if the sauna could travel? What if it could become part of a sunrise at the beach, a wellness retreat in the bush, a post-surf recovery session, or a gathering with friends under the stars?
That idea became Bohdi.
Every decision, from the trailer we chose to the materials we used and the layout we designed was guided by one simple question: How do we make the best mobile sauna anyones ever seen? This thing needs to cook both literally and figuratively. Cue the 18 month build montage where we were pushed to the edge starting a business few could see the vision for.
What do ya know? We did it!
Frankly the result is more than we expected. It's a space designed to bring people together wherever the journey leads. Whether it's parked beside the ocean, nestled among the trees, or set up for a private celebration covered in festoons.
Our goal posts have shifted back to the days in the shed: to create moments that help people reconnect - with themselves, with nature, and with each other. Wherever Bohdi goes, our mission remains the same: to make wellbeing more accessible, more social, and more memorable. Because the best ideas aren't always born in boardrooms. Sometimes, they begin in an old brick shed with a camp stove, a chest freezer, and a group of pals who are just the right amount of crazy.
